Youth Matter! brings its members various information on various programs of funding to assist with the running of groups. The following funds are available, however, there may be some restrictions and obligations to receiving such funds or grants, please read carefully.

New Fund from Warrington Borough Council

Aiming High for Disabled Children in Warrington is offering grants up to the value of £1,000 to voluntary, community and charitable groups in Warrington who want to improve the play and leisure experiences for disabled children and young people.

The Frank Buttle Trust - Child Support Scheme (UK)

Social workers, health visitors and support workers working for a statutory agency or voluntary organisation can apply for funding through the Frank Buttle Trust to help children and young people in desperate need. Grants are intended to make a positive contribution to their lives when their safety, health or development is at risk. The item (or service) to be funded should be critical to the well-being of the child/young person, and items that are merely desirable, rather than essential, will not be eligible for support. The grants available provide necessities such as: Beds Bedding Essential items of furniture Household equipment. The Trust also has an arrangement with Comet for washing machines, cookers, fridges and other white goods that can be delivered directly to applicants. Applications must be made through a statutory agency or voluntary organisation that is capable of assessing the needs of the child/young person, and that can also administer a grant on behalf of the Trust. In the financial year to 31st March 2008 the Trust made 9,481 Child Support grants, totalling £1.94 million. Applications can be submitted at any time. www.buttletrust.org

J Paul Getty Junior Charitable Trust Re-opens for Applications (England)

Following a review and revision of its funding guidelines, the J Paul Getty Junior Charitable Trust has re-opened for grant applications. Under the new guidelines the Trust will make grants of up to £250,000 in the areas of social welfare as well as the arts and heritage. In particular, the trust is seeking to support projects: In the areas of reducing re-offending Improving the prospects of young people, refugees and asylum seekers Integrating different social and ethnic groups Tackling substance misuse and homelessness; preserving heritage Sustaining the arts. The Trust will usually only support registered charities in England, although applications may sometimes be considered from other parts of the United Kingdom if the project is likely to be of nationwide significance. Occasionally, the Trust will fund organisations of comparable charitable status, such as Industrial Provident Societies or Community Interest Companies, but only where there is a very strong connection with one or more of the Trust’s current funding priorities. Cash 4 Clubs

Cash 4 Clubs is a small grants scheme for sports clubs which makes awards of £250, £500 and £1000 for a range of costs. These costs can  be for all sorts ranging from rugby kit to tennis court resurfacing. Any sports club that is registered with its sports' National Governing body or local authority can apply and preference is given to sports clubs which play an active role in their community. Introducing a new direction for the v Match Fund

The v Match Fund brings together private sector partners and charities to create innovative volunteering opportunities. The benefits are clear: by harnessing the creativity and energy of young people, we can bring communities together and find solutions to society’s biggest problems. We can change lives, protect the environment, create safer neighbourhoods, improve the nation’s health and give 16-25 year olds skills, confidence and experience.

The v Match Fund matches up to 100% of any new investment in youth volunteering – that’s double the money, and double the impact of the investment. Private companies [large and small], charitable trusts / foundations and individuals are seizing the opportunity to build volunteering initiatives with the promise of more bang for their buck.

The Morgan Foundation

The Morgan Foundation supports charities across North Wales, Merseyside, West Cheshire and North Shropshire.

The Morgan Foundation specialises in supporting small to medium sized locally based organisations whose work focuses on children, families, disadvantage and disability. Any work which has a positive effect on the welfare and quality of life, or which enhances the opportunities and life choices for people in this region will be considered.

Warrington Grassroots Grants

A new small grants fund which began September 2008.If your group has an income of £20k or less a year then you can apply for up to £5k over 3 years.

Small Grants Service

Warrington Borough Council and the Council for Voluntary Services are offering free funding advice for groups. Please contact Kim Bate, in regards to this service, on 01925 444400 or Gwen at WCVS on 01925 246880 .

Its Your Community Initiative

O2 have committed £1m to the “its your community” initiative which is managed by the Conservation Foundation and provides grants of £100 to £1,000 to individuals and groups to improve their local environment. Typical projects supported have been turning derelict land into an amenity park, or wildlife area, tree planting, creating a wildlife pond, renovating neglected river and canal footpaths, providing water butts and recycling facilities in village halls. The commitment by O2 means that the initiative will now be able to support up to 60 projects per month. Applications can be made at any time and are judged on the 20th of every month. Funding for Small Scale Regeneration Projects (UK)

Local community groups, community enterprises and registered charities that address social and economic deprivation within specific geographic areas such as a housing estate, neighbourhood or village may be eligible to apply for grants of up to £5,000 through Comic Relief’s Disadvantaged Communities programme. The focus of the programme is on small scale local projects which were started by local residents who came together to try to make their community better. This programme does not support work over a larger area, for example, city-wide initiatives or across a whole town. To be eligible applicants need to have a turnover of less than £150,000. The Community Champions Fund

The Community Champions Fund has been set up by DfES to help support and develop the work of local people who are involved in, or want to be involved in, changing their communities for the better. It is there to help people who can inspire others to get involved in renewing their neighbourhoods through participation in community groups. It can also support a number of small scale community inspired projects.

The Big Boost

The Big Boost is an awards programme that supports young people who are keen to get involved in their communities. The awards help young people set up and run projects that will make a lasting difference to them as well as to the areas they live in. A Big Boost Award is cash plus the support to help young people make their ideas a reality. Funded by the Big lottery Fund, the programme awards grants of between £250 to £5000 to help individuals and small groups of people aged between 11 to 25 deliver projects in their local areas. Applications can be made at any time.
