Support Worker Jobs
WBC Inclusion Service is working with Aiming High and a charity called
Leisure for Autism to establish a short break/leisure opportunity for young
people (12-19) with autism/Asperger Syndrome and complex challenging
behaviour. The young people that will access the service will be those whose
needs are not easily met in mainstream or special needs groups because their
behaviour demands a higher level of support than is usually available.
We will initially be running a monthly Saturday Club, running on the first
Saturday of the month 10am - 3pm (starting in March 2010) and we will be
using Orford Youth Base as our venue. We will be starting with 5 young
people and increasing to a maximum of 14 in time.
The intention of the club is to offer community and leisure activities to
this vulnerable group of young people rather than a more traditional youth
club and we have a minibus available to us. We will be offering a high staff
ratio of at least 1:1 plus a manager and a deputy manager. All staff will
access Team Teach training in positive handling which is a two day course
and this will be funded through the Aiming High start up budget.
We are looking for enthusiastic and committed staff to support the young
people. Experience of working with young people with autism/Asperger
Syndrome and/or challenging behaviour would be advantageous, however, we
would welcome applications from interested practitioners with the ability to
engage with young people and a willingness to learn from more experienced
practitioners. Training and peer mentoring can be offered where appropriate.
The hourly rate for staff is £9 pounds from 9.30am to 3.30pm on the first
Saturday of each month. Please call
